In South Carolina, school psychologist educator certificates come in two main types: Internship and Professional certificates. Each serves a unique purpose in your journey to becoming a certified school psychologist.
Internship Certificate
This certificate is for individuals currently completing their required internship component in a South Carolina public school district. To qualify, you must have a master's degree or equivalent graduate semester hours.
Professional Certificate
The Professional certificate is for those who have completed an approved school psychology program. To qualify, you must hold a master's degree or higher and meet other specified criteria.

For a Professional Certificate:
- Create a user account in My SC Educator Portal and complete a Standard Application.
- Submit a non-refundable $105 application processing fee online.
- Complete the fingerprinting process and criminal records review.
- Submit one of the following verifications:
- A College Recommendation Form signed by the designated official.
- A valid Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential.
- A valid standard out-of-state educator credential.
- A valid license in School Psychology issued by a state board of psychology.
- Submit an official transcript from each college/university attended.
- If applicable, submit an Experience Verification Form.
- Submit official score reports verifying passing scores on an approved subject knowledge assessment. Note: Applicants with a valid NCSP credential do not need to document a qualifying score.
For an Internship Certificate:
- Create a user account in My SC Educator Portal and complete a Standard Application.
- Submit a non-refundable $105 application processing fee online.

- Request a letter from your college/university program verifying your enrollment and intent to pursue professional certification.
After successfully completing your internship year, you can advance your Internship certificate to a Professional certificate by:
- Submitting an updated official transcript verifying internship completion.
- Submitting a College Recommendation Form signed by the institution’s designated official.
- Submitting official score reports verifying passing scores on the required subject area assessment.
If you need additional time to complete your internship, you may qualify for a second Internship certificate. The program provider must submit a letter verifying your continued full-time student status during the second year.
