Are you passionate about helping students succeed and considering a career as a school counselor in Wyoming? TinyEYE is here to guide you through the process! Whether you're looking to follow a traditional route or an alternative path, we've got you covered. Let's break down the steps to becoming a licensed school counselor in Wyoming.
Traditional Route to Licensure
The traditional route to teacher licensure in Wyoming requires the completion of a teacher preparation program from a regionally or nationally accredited institution of higher education. Here's what you need to know:
- Complete an approved Educator Preparation Program.
 - Ensure the program includes student teaching and leads to an Institutional Recommendation (IR) for licensure.
 - Graduate with a degree in Education in a specific endorsement area.
 - Submit official transcripts documenting the completion of the teacher preparation program.
 - Submit two (2) blue FBI Fingerprint Cards, including a background check.
 - Demonstrate knowledge of the U.S. and Wyoming Constitutions.
 - Meet teacher testing requirements.
 - Submit a complete application packet.

Requirements for Out-of-State Program Completion Applicants
If you've completed your Educator Preparation Program outside of Wyoming, you'll need to meet these additional requirements:
- Complete an approved Educator Preparation Program from an accredited college or university.
 - Ensure the program includes student teaching and leads to an Institutional Recommendation (IR) for licensure.
 - Obtain eligibility for licensure in the state where the college or university is located.

Alternative Route to Licensure
If you've obtained a license in another state through a non-traditional route or alternative method, you may still be eligible for licensure in Wyoming. Here's how:
- Verify full-time teaching, administrative, or other school experience for up to or including the past 10 years, signed by respective school administrators.
 - Provide a copy of your current, valid Teaching Certificate or License from your state.
 - Submit test scores from the PRAXIS II exam(s) or an equivalent exam from your state.
 - Submit two (2) blue FBI Fingerprint Cards, including a background check.
 - Demonstrate knowledge of the U.S. and Wyoming Constitutions.
 - Submit a complete application packet.

If you don't meet the above requirements for work history, you may still be eligible under a procedure for extenuating circumstances called an Exception Authorization. Make sure to research thoroughly if you're considering completing an out-of-state alternative licensing program to ensure it will be accepted by PTSB and lead to licensure in Wyoming.
